Endoscopy / Capsule endoscopy

Endoscopy is the umbrella term for various procedures in which a flexible tube with a tiny camera at the end, called endoscope, is inserted into hollow organs, mostly used for the visual examination of the digestive tract. The upper gastrointestinal endoscopy lets the doctor look inside the esophagus, stomach and first part of small intestine. For the examination of the large intestine, the lower endoscopy (colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy) is applied.

If needed, smaller surgical interventions, such as taking tissue samples or removing polyps from the colon, can be executed via the endoscope. Commonly, patients receive a light sedation during the procedure. For looking inside the small intestine, the so-called capsule endoscopy has established as a modern method. A capsule about the size of a large vitamin pill is swallowed, which takes pictures all the way through the digestive (gastrointestinal) tract. This capsule includes 1 or 2 tiny cameras, a light bulb, a battery and a radio transmitter. For the evaluation the radio transmitter sends the photos to a recorder the patient wears at a waist belt. The camera comes out and is flushed down the toilet safely.

No matter what kind of endoscopy our patients will need, we work for every indication with experienced specialists, performing this procedures in the most convenient and professional way.
