Cardiac CT

The two most popular Cardiac CT procedures are the Coronary CT angiography (CTA) and the Cardiac CT for Calcium Scoring. Whereas the CTA uses computed tomography (CT) and an intravenous contrast material (dye) to create three-dimensional images of the coronary arteries, the CT for Calcium Scoring measures the amount of calcium in the coronary arteries, which is an indicator for the presence, location and extent of coronary artery disease (CAD).

People with this disease have an increased risk for heart attacks. Because calcium is a marker of CAD, the amount of calcium detected on a cardiac CT scan is a helpful prognostic tool. It is a screening study that may be recommended by our doctors for patients with risk factors for CAD but no clinical symptoms yet.
