Sonography (Ultrasound)

Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. During lying on a table, the doctor moves a device called a transducer over parts of your body to be examined. Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs as well as blood flowing through blood vessels (Doppler ultrasound).

Ultrasound examinations do not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays), thus there is no radiation exposure to the patient. It is used to help diagnose the causes of pain, swelling and infection in the body’s internal organs. The most common ultrasound procedures are the abdominal ultrasound (examination of liver, spleen, kidneys, pancreas etc.), the echocardiography (examination of the heart), the examination of blood vessels and the thyroid gland. During pregnancy, doctors use ultrasound to view the fetus. Advancements in ultrasound technology include three-dimensional (3-D) ultrasound that formats the sound wave data into 3-D images and 4-D imaging (3-D live pictures, typically used for viewing the unborn baby).

At the International Diagnostic Center Frankfurt, we have ultrasound scanner of the newest generation at our disposal. If indicated, we can perform ultrasound examinations of all organs instantly, without waiting time.
