Pulmonary function testing

This examination is also known as spirometry or lung function test. It measures breathing parameters and how well the lungs are functioning. By breathing into a mouthpiece that is connected to so-called spirometer, the amount and the rate of air that you breathe in and out over a period of time is recorded.

Pulmonary function tests are useful to diagnose certain types of lung disease, such as asthma, bronchitis or emphysema. It’s also performed to check lung function before someone has surgery, assess the effect of medication or measure the progress in disease treatment.

Depending on your personal medical history or potential current complaints, the pulmonary function testing is a meaningful diagnostic tool we use.
