Cardiovascular Risk Assessment

Proven risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke, are - beside a genetic predisposition – high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol levels, diabetes mellitus and overweight. Based on huge epidemiological studies (e. g. Framingham Heart Study) and guidelines edited by diverse national cardiological associations (e. g. American Heart Association), various risk assessment tools use given information to predict a person’s chance of having a heart attack within the next 10 years. Therefore, special risk calculators are used to indicate a patient‘s statistical value to be affected by cardiovascular events based on his personal data. Some of these guidelines stress the importance of lifestyle modifications to lower cardiovascular disease risk by eating a heart-healthy diet, regular aerobic exercises, maintenance of desirable body weight and avoidance of tobacco products.

As part of our basic diagnostics, we submit obiously endangered patients to an officially acknowledged cardiovascular risk assessment, followed by our personal advise on potential lifestyle-changes.
